Village of Wolcott Dissolution

On November 15, 2023 a completed Petition for Dissolution in accordance with the Article 17-A of General Municipal Law was submitted. The petition contained 86 valid signatures and was certified on November 25, 2023.

The village hired an independent study to be done by the laberge group before the vote was taken.

The Citizens of the Village of Wolcott overwhelmingly voted against Dissolution

In a referendum held on March 12th, 2024, the voters of the Village of Wolcott voted against Village dissolution. The vote in the dissolution referendum was 317 “no” votes to 67 “yes” votes.

According to the Wayne County Board of Elections slightly more than 700 people were eligible to vote. Nearly 60% of them made it to the polls that day to vote. There were fewer people that voted to support the dissolution than the 86 who signed the petition that triggered the initial dissolution process. The community spoke loudly. This is Democracy at work!
